BRIEF PROFILE OF AMBASSADOR AJIT KUMAR Ajit Kumar, a post graduate from St. Stephen’s College, has served as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to United Nations Offices and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Consul General in Durban, Frankfurt, and Atlanta. Joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1979, has held posts in Damascus, Mexico City, Islamabad and New Delhi, he was deputy leader of the Indian delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, and participated in multilateral negotiations on the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). He had served as Director and Joint Secretary in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs (D&ISA) Division in MEA and became Secretary in 2014. He has attended several sessions of the UNDC & UN First Committee on D&ISA issues in New York and several international conferences. In all his postings, he has promoted economic and cultural diplomacy - also interacted and assisted the Indian diaspora. As Ambassador & PR to UN in Geneva, he engaged with 18 multilateral organizations, including UN Specialized Agencies, on issues like human rights, humanitarian issues, health, labour etc. India-saudi arabia bilateral relations • India and Saudi Arabia enjoy cordial and friendly relation reflecting the centuries old economic and socio-cultural time. • Highly successful visits of PM Modi in April 2016 & 2019 have led to enhanced cooperation in the political, economic, security & defense realm. The conferring of highest civilian honour on PM Modi by the Saudi King is an indication of the importance the Kingdom attaches to its relations with India. • Also the visit of the Crown Prince HRH Md. Bin Salman to India in February 2019 coupled with landmark visit of PM Modo to KSA marked a new and strong chapter in the bilateral relation which culminated in setting of the Strategic Partnership Council chaired by the two leaders.
